Overwatch 2’s launch has been interrupted by a wave of DDoS attacks and server crashes as players struggle to get into the game and access premium content.
Overwatch 2 players faced extremely long queue times when trying to launch the game, with some waiting in four-hour lines containing over 50,000 people. Others were unable to load the game, faced longer wait times when trying to merge their Overwatch accounts, and discovered unlocked cosmetics previously missing from their collection.
Hours after the game’s release, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra confirmed in twitter (opens in new tab) that Overwatch 2’s servers were hit by a DDoS attack – a deliberate attempt to disrupt and destabilize a network of servers by overloading it with a wave of traffic
Game director Aaron Keller later announced in twitter (opens in new tab) that a second DDoS attack had been recorded. He said Blizzard was “fully on deck” and would “continue to work through the night” to fix the issues.

Despite the DDoS attacks, some players managed to get around the long queue times. Logging into the game’s Asia servers on PC greatly reduced wait times and would still match you with players in your region.
Excessively long queue times aren’t the only issues players have encountered. Many were unable to log into Overwatch 2 even after the queue counter reached zero, with some hanging on the loading screen for up to an hour before logging in. Others were spontaneously disconnected while queuing or started mid-game.
Players attempting to merge their Overwatch accounts – allowing them to combine their PC and console profiles to carry skins, items, and other cosmetics for the sequel – need to join a second, long queue. While accounts can be merged in the background, players will expect their cosmetics and rank to show up. Some even failed to connect as they encounter an error message that says “Unexpected Server Error”.
Additional premium content has also disappeared from user accounts. Some players who purchased the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack – a $39.99 / £34.99 / AU$59.95 starter pack collecting various cosmetics, premium goodies and access to the Season 1 Battle Pass – found it did not appear in your account. Others have also found that cosmetics, items, and in-game currency are missing from their profiles.
Blizzard has published a forum post (opens in new tab) listing known boot issues and bugs. These include merge errors, server disconnects, and missing cosmetics. He says he is working to resolve the issues and will update players when fixes are ready. It has already fixed an issue that removed player match histories and replays and is refunding players who mistakenly purchased the Happi Genji skin twice after the cosmetic did not appear on some accounts.
